Chapter 4: Mr. Oliver Cameron

As soon as George went downstairs for breakfast, he found his Dad and Grandfather discussing something very serious. George asked, “What happened Dad?” “Look what is there in the newspaper, you might find it interesting” replied Dad George quickly took the newspaper, kept it on the table and began reading.

The headline read “A man claims that the never found treasure belong to him”. George was shocked. He read the entire article. It was stated in the article that a man named Oliver Cameron claims that he was the owner of the treasure which had not yet been found yet. The treasure was left by his great grandfather for his future generations to find. Further in the article, it was mentioned that Mr. Oliver Cameron had found a small piece of paper in which lied the clue to the treasure but hasn’t been able to crack the puzzle. And would be very grateful, if someone offered help. His address was also given. Beneath the article was the photo of the small piece of paper. It mentioned one line.

“On the 8th of August, something terrible took place, the man of this town died”.

George quickly called Harry and Nathan on the phone. “Hey, guys, a quick change of plans. We are going to meet Mr. Oliver Cameron. Will explain this to you while we meet in the park” They all agreed, though they were surely confused. After breakfast, George took the newspaper and along with Cathy and Saffi went to the park. The others were already waiting there.

“Ok listen. I found something handing them the newspaper. The three of them read the article from the newspaper.

“Wow. This is awesome” said Natalie “Lets quickly go to Mr. Oliver Cameron” , said Harry

“Hmm… the 8th of August something terrible happened. What could that be?” asked Nathan confused.

“Only one way to find out. Let’s go without wasting any time” replied Cathy They followed the address mentioned. “62….63….yes! This is the house of Mr Cameron, Block 64, Meander Street.”, said Harry “Common let’s go”, they went to the porch and rang the bell. A very tall old man with blue eyes opened the door.

“Is this where, Mr Cameron lives?”, asked George

“Yes, I am Oliver Cameron. You must have come here after reading the article from the newspaper” replied Mr. Cameron

“Yes, we would like to help you. Can we have a look at the paper piece” asked Natalie “Oh yes, come on in”

The five of them went inside and sat on the black leather sofa together. Mr. Cameron sat on the chair beside. He took out the piece of paper and placed it on the coffee table. It was a very old paper indeed and was written by a quill in turquoise green ink. The only line mentioned in the paper was

“On the 8th of August, something terrible took place, the man of this town died.”

“Mr. Cameron, do we know this man of this town?”, asked Cathy “Well, actually I am not sure about it. But a man called Tom Crail was the founder of this town. Don’t know when he died” replied Mr. Cameron

“Oh ok. May we know from where was this paper found?” asked Nathan “You see. One day I went to the mansion and was searching for the so-called treasure and I found this paper behind the large painting in the living room. I am not sure whether this is the clue to the treasure, but I think it is because I didn’t find anything else as a clue in the mansion”

“Are you sure the mansion belonged to your great grandfather” , asked George.

“Oh yes, after all the name of the mansion was The Cameron manor” “We haven’t noticed that before” whispered George

“Oh and one more thing. My great grandfather had a property deal with Mr. Tom Crail. I still have the documents. I will bring it in a minute” said Mr Cameron He came back with a file and handed it to George. A property house of Mr. Bradley Cameron was sold to Mr. Tom Crail. The name of the house was sea view cottage.

“My Grandpa used to say his dad and the founder of the town were really close friends and they had together opened a hotel over there which was very popular. The hotel is now called the Seaside resort”, said Mr. Cameron “But first we must make sure, the founder of this town was Mr. Tom Crail. Let’s go to the library”, said Harry

“Yes. Come on. Would you like to join us Mr. Cameron” asked Cathy “I am feeling a bit tired. You kids may please go ahead” replied Mr. Cameron.

“Ok Mr. Cameron. Oh!, we forgot to introduce ourselves. I am Natalie, this is my brother Nathane”.

“I am George and this is my sister, Catherine”

“You can call me Cathy”

“And I am Harry” Bow bow … “Oh I forgot, this is our pet Saffi” , said George “Bye”. Everyone said together and they rushed to the library.

It was already 12 o’Clock and they were afraid the library will close for lunch. Thankfully, it did not. They headed straight to the history section.

“You children should make it fast. I am about to leave for lunch”, said the librarian

“Yes” replied all of them together and quickly searched for the books and they began to read.

The books they came across were very small books with little details and just a few pages. After reading them, they could find some interesting facts. Mr. Cameron was right. The founder of the town was Mr. Tom Crail. He was the one responsible for the development of the economy that improved the lifestyle of Crail. He was born on 13th May 1804 and died on 8th August 1856. Mr. Tom Crail and Mr. Bradley Cameron had opened the seaside hotel. After Tom Crail’s death, he was buried at the Crail’s Church Cemetery.
